Auburn's Jaylin Simpson named to ESPN's midseason All-America team

Auburn's Jaylin Simpson has blossomed in his new role as a safety.

Simpson formerly played cornerback for the Tigers, but due to injury they had to try Simpson at safety for a portion of last season.

Now, in Ron Robert's new 4-2-5 defense, Simpson is a ball-hawk safety that's currently tied for second in the country in interceptions with four.

ESPN has acknowledged his breakout year by naming him to their midseason All-American team.

"Formerly a cornerback, Simpson has blossomed as a safety in Ron Roberts' defense. The 6-1, 178-pound senior is second nationally among safeties with four interceptions and is fifth on Auburn with 20 total tackles. Simpson's 90.3 coverage grade leads all safeties, according to Pro Football Focus, and he hasn't allowed a touchdown in 160 coverage snaps."

Simpson made the team over Alabama safety Caleb Downs, who was listed as an honorable mention.
