Canucks’ Ethan Bear and Tyler Myers are on Canada’s roster for the IIHF World Championship
? Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

Canada has officially announced their roster for the IIHF World Championship in Finland, and as expected, two Vancouver Canucks defencemen are on it.

Ethan Bear and Tyler Myers will both be heading to Finland to represent their country.

The two will be joined by other notable NHLers as well, as Tyler Toffoli, Milan Lucic, Sammy Blais, Mackenzie Weegar, and Lawson Crouse were all announced as part of the roster reveal. Canada will certainly be a fun team to watch, as on top of their NHL talent, they’ll have a pretty nice dose of young players as well. Peyton Krebs, Cody Glass, Joe Veleno, and anticipated second overall pick of the 2023 NHL Draft Adam Fantilli were all also announced as part of Canada’s roster, among others. Forward Conor Garland was also announced as part of Team USA’s roster announcement on Thursday. Elias Pettersson intended on playing for his home country of Sweden at the tournament, but as we wrote last week, an insurance issue will keep Pettersson away from this year’s tournament.

Pettersson, who put up 102 points with the Canucks this past season, was slated to reunite with Sam Hallam, his coach from his time with the Växjö Lakers. Unfortunately, securing the disability insurance that Pettersson was looking for proved too difficult for Sweden to pull off. Pettersson needed to be protected from loss of future earnings for his next contract, and he’s due for a big raise when that contract kicks in. The problem ended up being that that contract does not yet exist. The 2023 IIHF World Championship tournament begins next week on Friday May 12th, and concludes on May 28th. Canada will play their first game on Friday against Latvia. We’ll have a full preview for you right here at canucksarmy.com sometime before the tournament begins to get you all set to watch your Canucks represent their countries!
