Diego Alonso remains winless as Sevilla coach after their Champions League defeat at Lens.
It was another hard luck story as Lens won 2-1 with an injury-time winner via Angelo Fulgini.
Alonso said: "We played a game in which we deserved more. Football is being cruel to us. It's hard to reproach the players for their effort as the opposition barely had a shot on goal. There are things we can improve we lack efficiency.
"For all that we generate, we should be scoring more in matches."
He also stated: "The players are hurt with the situation just like the fans are. Not being in Europe is a blow, it's very painful. Two week ago we had it in our hands to get through to the last 16, we were 2-0 up [against PSV] and then today with a draw we'd have gone through."
